Hillview Baptist Church Membership Covenant
Having been led, by the Holy Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, and on the profession of my faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, I do now, in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with this local church. In doing so, I commit myself to God and to the other members to do the following:
I. In the Church
A. I will endeavor to keep the unity of my church
1. by walking together with them in Christian love (I John 3:14;4:20-21; I Peter 1:22) To watch over one another in brotherly love, remembering each other in prayer, aiding each other in sickness and distress;
2. by avoiding all gossip, tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger (2 Corinthians 12:20; Ephesians 4:29)
3. To cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech, slow to take offence, but always ready to forgive and reconcile relationships without delay as commanded by Jesus, (Matthew 5:23-24)
4. by following the leaders (Hebrews 13:7, 17)
B. I will share in the responsibility of Hilltop Baptist Church
1. By engaging constantly in personal and corporate prayer for the growth of the ministry, (Ephesians 6:18; Colossians 1:3; I Thessalonians 1:2)
2. By engaging in evangelism, to seek the salvation of my kindred and acquaintances, (Matthew 28:18-20; Luke 14:23)
3. By engaging in loving hospitality toward those attending, (Romans 15:7; 16:2)
C. I will serve in the ministry of my church, (Ephesians 4:11-16)
1. By discovering and exercising my gift(s) and talents
2. By being equipped to serve by my pastors/teachers, striving for the advancement of this church in knowledge (Ephesians 4:11-12)
3. By developing a servant’s heart in order to promote its prosperity and spirituality
D. I will support the testimony of my church, (Hebrews 10:25)
1. By attending faithfully all the regular services of the church and sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines, to give it a sacred pre-eminence over all institutions of human origin,
2. By living a godly life, (Philippians 1:27)
- to walk circumspectly in the world
- to be just in my dealings, and exemplary in my behavior
- religiously educate my children
3. By contributing cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, and the relief of the poor, and missions. (Tithe -Leviticus 27:30; Offering - I Corinthians 16:2)
